Photo Editing – How the Professionals do it!

Course 103

It is inescapable; computers are as much a part of modern digital photography as a roll of film used to be.  In this class it’s time to; protect your images, organized your images and learn how to sort all of the images you have cluttered across your vast hard drive. WE will discuss computer monitors and how to set you system up for accurate color for printing to your home printer or sending color lab of your choice.

What do I need for this course? A laptop or other computer you can bring to class each week.  You do not need any software for this class. We will provide free or demo software for you to use during this class.

This course will be limited to 15 people. Studio doors will open a half hour before each class start time to settle in and setup your computers. This class will be 90 minutes in length. Roughly half for lecture and half for lab time to start working on your assignments.

Course Outline

Week One

  • Computer equipment – what you have vs. what you need.
  • Printers, scanners and Wi-Fi, what do I need.
  • Mac vs. PC does it matter?
  • The first step to an organized photo collection – Know where your images are stored on your computer.
  • Software choices to help you get organized.
  • Your weekly assignment.

 

Week Two

 

  • So I’m organized – Now what?
  • Time to protect what you love and get rid of everything else.
  • Three backup strategies, which ones best?
  • Your weekly assignment

 

Week Three

  • Using software to make your photographs better not worse
  • Free and for purchase software, what do I use?
  • Using Picasa for basic image editing
  • Adjusting exposure and cropping done right
  • Your weekly assignment

 

Week Four

  • It’s all about image editing
  • What’s cloning? I thought that was illegal.
  • How to read a histogram (I know this is a little techie but you can handle it)
  • Blinking highlights, what are they and what do they mean?
  • Other ways to improve exposure on post processing (using your computer)
  • Three more tips
  • Your weekly assignment

 

 

The Fine print… All courses are prepaid to reserve your spot. If you need to cancel you may receive a full refund less a $10 cancelation fee if you cancel 7 or more days prior to the first day of class. If you cancel less than 7 days before class you will be credited the full amount less the $10 cancelation fee towards a future class or lab credit for prints, photo books and more.
